All students in all disciplines are encouraged to participate in undergraduate research and inquiry. Research and inquiry can take shape in many forms including papers, presentations, performances, creative pieces, music compositions, etc.

Why should I consider doing undergraduate research and inquiry?
Undergraduate research and inquiry can be a very rewarding experience. In addition to learning research skills, students get the opportunity to work closely with faculty and work on projects that they are truly passionate about. Students also learn the importance of ethics and personal conduct in the research process, how to work independently, and how to overcome obstacles. It is important to note that undergraduate research and inquiry can take place in all the disciplines and takes on many different forms such as papers, manuscripts, creative projects, theses, performances, etc.

There are many ways to become involved with undergraduate research. While the OURI website lists opportunities for research and inquiry, another great way to discover these opportunities is to speak with your professors and try to collaborate on a scholarly project with them.

Where can I get funding for research?
There are many opportunities for internal funding through stipends and research grants. To remain informed on the most recent funding opportunities, subscribe to the OURI listserv by emailing ouri@svdxn96.com, subject line “Subscribe.” You will be emailed bi-weekly with all of the upcoming funding opportunities!

How can I find out more about the research that faculty are doing, especially faculty who might be willing to mentor me?
The OURI website is a great place to look for research and inquiry opportunities. Another good option is to research all of the faculty currently doing research on the FAU website, and seek out a professor to see if they have any research ideas that they would be willing to collaborate on.

What is the role of the OURI?
The mission of OURI is to support and strengthen the culture of undergraduate research and inquiry at Florida Atlantic University. We believe that undergraduate research and inquiry gives students the opportunity to work closely with faculty on projects that they are passionate about. It also gives students the opportunity to grow, learn, and discover their interests.

FAU hosts an annual Undergraduate Research Symposium for students to showcase their work in the Spring semester on the Boca Raton campus.
